I’ve been absent for a long time because of the move and the new house and all of the problems that have come with it. What problems, you ask? Well, in our 40 year old new house, we have 5 bathrooms and 5 toilets. And last week, none of them flushed. It seems that some one planted a beautiful palm tree right on top of our main sewer line that leaves our house. Roots from the little tree found a crack in the pipe and took up residence. To find them, my poor husband dug holes all over our back your to find the sewer lines. Then he broke into the line and cut out the roots. Now he has to replace the damaged piping.
Can you imagine a week without being able to flush at will. We didn’t have a choice, we flushed when necessary and washed clothes when they smelled really badly. All waste water left the house and went up through the vent right outside of our house into the beautiful landscaped outside of our back door. Can you imagine watching all of the waste spilling onto your back yard. I think we killed a few plants.
Anyway, my never-pay-when-you-can-do-it-yourself-husband took care of this problem too. He dug a trench so that all waste water would flow in to the storm drain. It was the only way to make sure the water didn’t overflow into the pool. I bet our neighbors have been peakin’ over our fence. Can you imagine what they must think.
And all of this happened over thanksgiving. What a mess!
I’ll never take another toilet for granted.
Kimber,
I followed the link from the WTM hive to this blog and see that you haven’t posted in a while and also that you were seeking prayer in your previous post. I hope all is well. Is there anything I can pray for you?
Hi Andrew,
Thanks for the concern. I reread that post, and was I ever in a bad place. It was an extremely stressful time for our family and for me in particular. I found out around that time that a family member was ill. I am so glad that all of that is now over as well. But since then, I’ve learned that I’ve taken on too much for the moment, so I am giving my self a little break from working. And honestly, I was hesitant to say that on my blog. I felt guilty for not being able to keep it all together and continue working on my books, (Not sure if you know about those.) my personal writing and, homeschooling effectively. The key word being effectively.
Well, since pulling back, school at home is great. We haven’t found a new co-op or church home, but we’re praying about that. And I am writing again for self, reworking my book in an attempt to be published (Don’t know if you remember me mentioning that at the houston conference.) but I am still at it.
Thanks for the kind words and I can’t wait to get my daughter and son started in The Lots Tools of Writing this fall.
Blessings!
